if you think about it, her one track mind matches those of the white whistles. maybe this is why she managed to get this far.

I believe it was established in either season 1 or the movie that those who delve into the depths of the Abyss and in particular White Whistles, who go deeper than any other, need to have a screw loose. Well rounded sane people don't willingly throw themselves into the lovecraftian murder hole. Going to the 6th layer and beyond is only possible if you can pursue your goals with such single-mindedness. Even getting past the second is difficult for most since they may start to suddenly bleed out of their everything if they ascend too quickly and we've seen thanks to Nanachi and Mitty's history with Bondrewd just what sort of thing can happen when you try to ascend from the lower levels (with this village being the biggest example of how twisted things can become) so any sane person wouldn't seek to go below the third layer, lest the attempt at returning kill them (not to mention all the dangerous creatures and unstable terrain that could kill a person).

Everything is done for the greater good, there is a reason why the people on the surface send him kids, he is respected by the people that go down the abyss since his search helps to save lives, he is even trying to find a way of coming out of the 6th layer without turning into a hollow. Also dont know if the anime ever touched on this(not a spoiler, should have happened already) every 2000 years something happens to the abyss and he is trying to find a way to stop it. His white whistle tittle is The Sovereign of Dawn because he made a lot of discoveries about the abyss. And remember who was his first victim, himself, the only reason he uses children is because they are the best test subject since he cant use himself again. I won't deny that what he does is horrible, it is, nothing justifies it, but he isnt doing it with malice, he is science without morals but he isnt doing it for his ego.
